Unlike generic chatbots, it uses AI text models fine-tuned for anime character simulation, and characters can display changing facial expressions (visual-novel style) as the conversation evolves. Users can upload character images, define memories and traits, and publish their creations for others to chat with. It is a solo project by Ruel Alarcon, an undergraduate student at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. The free Demo tier offers a less powerful model with limited messages; Premium at $10/month unlocks the most powerful model with unlimited messages. Note: this is a niche, anime-focused platform—not a general-purpose assistant. It has no dedicated mobile app and no public API.

Chatmate AI is a platform for chatting with AI companions (“Chatmates”) that have simulated lives, personalities, and emotions.
